Three Addictive Word Games for Writers
Source: www.writinghood.com --- Thursday, April 24, 2008
If you love to write and are fascinated by the power of words, challenge yourself with these unique free online word games for writers. These games are guaranteed to sharpen your brain and can help you remove writer's block. It's a great way to give yourself a break from your latest writing project and have fun at the same time. But beware! Some of these games can be both challenging and addicting.
Bookworm
Watch out! This game can become a habit. When you play this game online, you'll be challenged to feed the big green, talking bookworm by linking letters together to form words. To earn more points, create longer words with more letters. To add even more excitement to the game, certain tiles are colored red. If you allow the red letters to reach the bottom of the row without using them in a word, your library will catch fire. Certain letters will earn you bonus points when you use them successfully in a word. This game teaches you to form words rapidly and is a great brain exercise for writers.
Text Twist
This fast paced, vocabulary word game challenges your ability to make words out of designated letters. You'll be presented with a set of letters and asked to make as many words as you can from those letters while being timed. You earn points for each word that you successfully complete and will travel to the next level if you use all the letters given to you. If you need a hint, just hit the twist button and the ...
Word Games in May
Source: daygamer.blogspot.com --- Wednesday, April 23, 2008
The Central Texas Boardgames Meetup is doing quite well. In addition to the regular monthly meetup, May will see a South Austin Meetup and a word games Meetup both hosted by "not me." Lisa and David will host in South Austin. Since their attendance is limited (and it's a long way from me) I'll leave enjoying that meetup to the folks in South Austin. I do plan on attending the word games meetup hosted by Anita. We played Big Boggle at our last meetup and it was a lot of fun. I only got a chance to play it a few times because I had to run off to a business trip to Connecticut. I thought everyone had played Boggle before but I was the only one in our group, I think, who had played it. A local library hosted a Boggle tournament this week so it must have a few proponents at least. I had fun. Lauren came and brought Gary. Lauren taught the group "Speed Scrabble" which comes up as Pick Two when you search for it on Boardgamegeek.con. Funny. I had Pick Two in my ever-present game cart and they were playing the same thing with the Scrabble tiles.
